You could also try to go into the "SPECIAL" menu/Preferences and uncheck "Hide Invisible Files"

Then delete the "Finder.Root" and "Finder.Data"  files that show up.  That may show S16 file back in the window.  Also check the number of files in the window, Sometimes a corrupt icon will prevent the icon from showing up on the screen.  But the number of files on disk should still show up in the Finder window.
