Was he saying "ka-ra-TE-ka" ?

I think I always logically saw it as "ka-RA-te-ka" because, well, you 
don't say "ka-ra-TE", you say "ka-RA-te", and I surmised (correctly) that 
it was just "karate" with a suffix.
