Apple III Silentype howto?

Hello all,

I just acquired a very nice looking Silentype printer for my Apple III. 
 And, I'd like to know if this Silentype is working.  I know very 
little about both (I've had an Apple III for about a month, but no time 
to play with it).

I tried from Business Basic:

open#1, .printer
print#1 "foobar"

No error, but also no printing.

open#1, .silentype

Per the instructions from here http://support.apple.com/kb/TA32242 
errors with, IIRC, FILE NOT FOUND.

I do have a parallel card installed with nothing connected to it.

The Silentype is connected to Port A (left port looking at rear).  I did 
scroll up the paper just in case the Silentype was just too silent.  No 
output.

Any other tips?
