Re: More thoughts about Lode Runner & other multiload games...
A little more on LR - someone suggested that using the LC for levels would
make it incompatible with ProDOS...
Not as I'll do it. Of course it'll erase ProDOS from memory - the levels
need to go there - but it will load entirely within the 0800-95FF "safety
zone" and should theoretically load fine on any OS. Anyone familiar with
my crunching techniques will notice that the files have a BASIC stub like
Commodore programs... ensuring it loads no lower than 0801, and that even
a DOS which lacks a BRUN command, like RDOS, can use it. Naturally, I'll
be compressing Lode Runner.
The other option is to keep a file in the current directory. (There's an
issue with BASIC.SYSTEM where it eats the prefix. Obviously I woule need
to work around that.) Each call to read or write would be converted to a
ProDOS open-seek-read-close or open-seek-write-close. Still, I would gut
the editor, and make it a separate utility.
