I'm sure Woz would like that, but I don't think that's what he said. He'd

Come to think of it, so would I.

Not full-blown Objective C, but much simpler "glue" scripting that would
allow new apps based on existing apps.

Apple's corporate allergy to user programming is, I'm pretty sure, a
consequence of Jobs' inability to program.

I think it's more that they want you to buy a Macintosh to use as the
development platform. The fact that the development toolchain won't run
anywhere else is about the only thing that's really 'closed' about the
iOS devices IMO, at least compared to the competition.

Hi, Matt!

I was just wishing for a little scripting, not a full-blown development
environment. The user should be able to do some customization and creation
without having to be a guru.

Even a sort of macro language would be better than nothing. Of course, I'd
really like iBASIC. ;-)

There are many programming on the iPad solutions available. E.g.:

1. ActiveGS, then follow my blog notes on how to add any image, from there you can boot OS/GS or DOS and program in assembly, BASIC, C, etc... It will not be a native app, but if you are looking for simple scripting, it's not bad.

2. Basic! It is, well, BASIC. It also had hooks into some HW features. Can also go graphics.

3. iAltairHD. Can emulate Z80 and 8086. DOS and CP/M available. Some programming available, can add more using the same tips in #1.

4. Check out Codea. Probably what you are looking for. Lua based. Can create games, touch support, etc... See the demos.

5. i41CX+ is an HP41 emulator with RPN programming that can import and export code and it can link to the HW (GPS, etc...), and has a more powerful CAS programming model.

I've used all but #4. I also have iDOS before it got pulled that I use for Turbo C.
