Re: Template for AppleWorks (IIe version)

Brother Robert,

I'm glad to see that you're still putting AppleWorks to good use.

Using the Database module of AppleWorks 5.1, the solution here would be
similar to that discussed a couple of years ago for a TV program record time
database. You may wish to examine the formulas used in that database and
adapt them to your current project. BTW, that thread (including the
formulas) is archived here:

a25e61b6a>

The keys points are:

1. When constructing the database Category Names, put the word 'time'
somewhere in each 'TIME' category name so that AppleWorks will format them
as such.

2. Use the '@TimetoNum' function in the Database to convert your hours and
minutes to just minutes (in order to perform addition/subtraction).

3. Add (or subtract) the desired # of minutes to the result of Step 2.

4. Since Randy never got around to adding the corresponding '@NumtoTime'
function, you now need to break the calculated total minutes back down to
Hours and Minutes. This takes (3) formulas/categories. (See the sample in
the thread listed above). First, figure the hours. Then figure the minutes.
Then '@Join' them together.

5. Be sure to set the 'input' categories to 'Auto-recalc' in the Database
option settings so that as you enter your times, the record will be
recalculated.

Please let me know if I can help further. I'd be happy to send you a sample
database file with these formulas in it if you like. I suspect, however,
that you will be able to do it yourself just fine, especially if you follow
the example in the archived thread.

BTW, the full documentation for AppleWorks 4 (Reference Manual) and
AppleWorks 5 (Delta Manual plus index and errata) is located on that 'other'
site.

Heck, they're even OCRed.
