Not sure. But it's easier to do than emulating a mockingboard, provided you have a synth engine laying around (which Java does). Timidity could be used in similar fashion for C/C++ based emulators. I guess I have no reason to put off resuming my work on the mockingboard emulation for JACE -- the whole mixer problem I was having was a Sun JRE issue that affects Linux users all alike: The audio drivers are crap. When I switched to OpenJDK, I was surprised to see that I can actually open an unlimited number of audio inputs -- so mixing audio is a task handled by the runtime and I can stop worrying about it.
Now if only I could find other software that used Passport besides Ultima V. ;-) Bank Street and Music Construction Set both relied on Mockingboard (and MCS also supported Echo+ but I know nothing about that card)
