Was there ever any SECAM support for any version of the Apple II ? :-)
Seriously, though, I never got any PAL card for my Apple II, and when
I realized I never would get one, I removed those extra wires to Slot
7, so it could be used as any other slot and not just for a PAL card.
Then I changed those motherboard jumpers to make the Apple II
generate video at 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz. The video output was then
fed into an RF modulator and into a B&W TV set (later I got a B&W
video monitor instead). Even though the B&W TV set was European, it
was easy enough to make it work on the American video signal: only
the vertical sync had to be adjusted somewhat (neither color nor
cound would have worked, of course, but since I had neither of these,
it didn't matter).
Somewhat later I got my first PC: a separate motherboard around which
I built a cabinet myself, adding a power supply and all the other
stuff needed to make it work. The graphics card was a CGA card which
also had a composite video output. I shared the same monitor between
the Apple II and the PC -- with a simple switch on the coax cable I
could easily switch which computer's video output should appear on
the monitor. The PC's CGA card always produced 60 Hz video, of
course, and since I had made my Apple II produce 60 Hz video too,
I could switch the monitor from one computer to the other without
having to readjust the vertical sync..... :-)
