You've just described what the SecondSight does...and it doesn't need to tie
itself to the processor socket. All the necessary signals are available at
the expansion slots.
At this point, though, I'd find a scan doubler more useful...it won't do
better than whatever the GS can produce, but it would allow use of a larger
range of VGA monitors (more than just those few that can sync to its low
refresh rate). I bought one a while back that was sold for use with an
Amiga, but it has some funky 23-pin connector on it. I hacked a DB-25 to
fit it, but an attempt (based on what I could dig up on the Amiga's video
connector) at lashing together an adapter cable didn't work too well.
