Thank you, Tim,
Sorry to hear about that, but understandable. That being the case,
what is the status of Micrograms' Apple II software? Three positions are
popular today.
(1) Free advertising: simply shutting the book on the
Apple II software doesn't benefit the companies one
penny, but making the software available as freeware
or shareware to promote the awareness of the IBM or
Macintosh versions of their products, and releases
the company of any responsibility to provide support
for the Apple II versions of their programs.
(2) Many companies have been releasing copyright to the
original programers to do with as they choose.
(3) Recently, a new "ware" category has evolved: "no-pursue-ware."
Companies that wished to release software for reasons, such
as the free advertising advantage stated above, but were
faced by the $10,000 cost necessary to prove that their
programs did not contain portions of code that were
copyrighted by others (a cost for software that was not
going to be bringing in additional profit to the company
directly), posted email stating that they maintained full
copyrights on their Apple II programs, but would not pursue
copyright infringement on the Apple II versions of their
software.
I'd be interested to know about Micrograms' interests.
Thank you for writing back,
Jay Edwards
