If you are willing to go that far, why not try kegs? I have no idea
whether it will run on OS X, but it is worth a try (you will need an X
server though). I find that performance is highly variable with
kegs. Sometimes it is around 1 MHz effective, other times it is
around 22 MHz effective, or so kegs claims. The main issues are sound
and the serial port. AFAIC, these are not a huge issue since I since I
have a real IIgs anyway. You may, of course, view things differently.
Bernie is another emulator which will run under Mac OS 9 (perhaps even
OS X by this point). I mucked around with the trial version a little bit
after first buying my G3 (350 MHz, BTW). It was pretty nice, and seemed
to work much better than kegs in general. Its only failing is a price
tag. Since I am not a huge emulator fan, and kegs will do what I want of
it, my choice was easy.
On Virtual PC: I tried it sometime ago (version 2). Performance was
generally less than appealing. While the program was probably a heck of
a lot more efficent than kegs, OS/2 and Windows software generally want
the fastest machine available.
