apple IIe data conversion

I used Appleworks to create data on the IIe disks and now need to convert the data to Mac or Pc Word. I have a conversion program for the PC but need to get to a Dos prompt on the Apple.  All I have is the Appleworks program disks.  Does anyone know how I get to the Dos prompt either during boot up or after Appleworks is loaded?
