It's a pain if you don't have a Mac on the Internet, or a Mac as an
intermediary between the PC and the IIgs. I can make copies of my
System 6.0.1 diskettes. The Install diskette will allow you to create
a bootable floppy disk for daily use.

you ever wanted to know, but were afraid to ask!

It's not a monitor ... It's the Applesoft BASIC prompt. It allows you
to type in and run BASIC programs (of course, you have no operating
system loaded, so saving the programs is tough :-) ). If you want a
true "monitor", type "Call -151" at the "]" prompt. Type Ctrl-B, then
Enter to return to BASIC.

That I don't know... I do know, however, that there were more
differences betwen a ROM 01 and a ROM 3 IIgs other than just the ROMs.
The ROM 3 version had a different motherboard (more RAM, slightly
different layout, etc.) in addition to the new ROMs. I don't know if
you could plug a version 3 ROM into a version 01 motherboard, and get
the right results...

They do still copyright the GS/OS system, but they have it on their
website for free download, so they aren't charging for it, and I
presume they aren't going after people who copy it for others...
If you need disks, email me OFF-LIST, and let me know your address....
No charge for the disks ....
