The first thing I do is go back to my IIe or IIGS!
Seriously, the first thing I try is 'force quit' <command-esc> or
(option-esc> . Then I try the pc equiv of ctl-alt-delete which is
<ctrl-command-powerkey>. That usually reboots an ADB equipeed Mac. If an
iMac is hung then it won't respond to the keyboard, so reach for the power
cord and yank it HARD from either the CPU or the wall socket. Mac users,
please note: it is NOT neccessary to disconnect the power cord from both
the wall and the iMac; either end disconnected is sufficient to
power-off the iMac. To restart the iMac plug the power cord back in from
wherever you disconnected it. Wear rubber gloves and do NOT stand in
water when you touch the power cord. Please have someone standing nearby
a phone ready to call 911.
As an Apple II user I would feel bad if a Mac user was hurt because they
couldn't follow directions. This is an AppleII newsgroup, not a Mac
newsgroup. There is a difference.
Happy Thanksgiving!
