The Small Computer System Interface  was a direct out growth of the Shugart 
and Associates System Interface.  Shugart developed the original standard.  
Funny that the (STILL imho) best hard drive interface ever developed was a 
begun by a company that started by making 8" floppy drives and incidentally 
was the provider of the mechanisim for the Disk ][ 5.25 drive.
