OK, I did a fresh System 7.1 install on an Mac SE/30 and then followed
Jonathan's procedure. I still can't get a ROM 1 IIgs to net boot, so I
conclude that this doesn't work with a ROM 1.

I noticed that in Jonathan's procedure, he says to set the boot slot to
"Appletalk". That is not an option on a ROM 1, where you set the boot slot
to "Slot 7", it's only on a ROM 3, so it appears he wrote the procedure
while using a ROM 3.

That's consistent with my experience: you can net boot with a ROM 3, but not
with a ROM 1.

Anyone out there been able to do a net boot (boot via AppleTalk, without
using a disk connected to the IIgs)?
