Exiting the control panel should not reboot your computer. The only
way it could be doing this is if you are holding down the option key
when turning on the IIgs and selecting option 1. In this case, when
you Quit the Control Panel, the IIgs will reboot. This isn't the
usual way to enter the Control Panel, though.
The usual method to enter the Control Panel is to start the IIgs and
if you have it booting a disk, wait until it has booted. Once the
computer has finished starting up, hold down the Control and Command
(Open-Apple) keys then press and release the ESC key then release the
other two keys. Use the arrow keys to select the Control Panel desk
accessory and press Return (or Enter) to open it. Use the arrow keys
to select whatever section you want to make changes to and hit Return.
Use the arrow keys to make any changes you want but remember to hit
Return to save the changes. If you hit ESC to exit a section it
doesn't save the changes. Select the Quit option when you are done in
the Control Panel and then select Quit in the desk accessories screen
to return to whatever was running.
Another way to adjust the Control Panel settings is to use the New
Desk Accessory version of the Control Panel that comes with later
versions of GS/OS. That version of the Control Panel is found under
the Apple menu in GS/OS desktop applications if it is installed and it
requires that you have CDEVs installed as well to allow you to make
changes to various settings.
