Since the drives get their power from the computer, you can only hook up so
many of them before you begin to overload the power supply.  I have no idea
how much power the IIc+'s power supply can deliver, but I'd imagine it's no
more than the 30-35W that the II/II+/IIe/IIGS power supplies can provide
(and probably less, since there was much less capacity for expansion).

I'm sure that's the source of the physical drive limitation, and has no
bearing on the number of logical drives that can be mapped.

Well, I'm willing to do some further experimenting using Apple-branded drives only (no spvhd). But, so far I have not been able to get more a total of four drives recognized on my IIc +.
