I've read the other articles in the thread and indeed the solution is
covered under the groups charter. He has to find three things listed in
another message, including an Apple///. Our user group happens to have
two Apple///s gathering dust. If anybody *needs* them e-mail me before
the end of the month and I'll put them in touch with the people who are
storing them.
For future reference I would suggest the question be phrased like "How
can I low-level format a Profile hard drive". This gets appropriate
information and lets the questioner stay within the charter of the group.
The point I was trying to make (no personal criticism intended with any
of this), was there is a a good deal more difference between the Apple//
series and Lisa than there is between the Apple// and Apple///. The
machine was a radically different design paradigm. In fact it is to the
Mac what the Apple I is to the Apple//. My question (as it was when the
Mac first came out) is should we be supporting machines with the 68000
processor? This would also include the older (some would say ancient)
Macs. Do we support *ALL* legacy Apple platforms (Lisa, Mac, and Newton
included) or do we go on as we have for the last 20 years?

Perhaps they are the same people. I also have three Macs and two PCs.
Unless I'm having a very bad day, questions which deal only with these
machines go to the appropriate news groups. If a question about a Lisa
is appropriate in this group is something for the group to decide. Up to
this point Lisa questions have been referred to the Mac groups.
Your point about low traffic is valid. I suspect there wouldn't be enough
people willing to say they'd use the group. In this case another
possible solution to the problem would be to see if someone would be
willing to donate a working 486/Pentium with a 2-4 Gb hard drive, throw
Linux/BSD on it, then conect it to a donated IP (and domain) at some
ISP. A web page (with all sorts of features like chat rooms and message
forums) could be set up. At that point it really wouldn't matter how low
the traffic is if it acts as a "catch all" area for legacy hardware.
