This is a hardware problem (as you already know). Take what I say with a
grain of salt since I am not a hardware expert. My GS does the same
thing. As long as the machine functions properly then it is nothing to
worry about. If the characters stay on the screen after the boot process
is complete then it may possibly be a matter of a chip needing to be
replaced. If the computer does not function properly then it sounds like
more work than most people want to go through to fix it. It would be
more time effective (and better on your wallet) to pick up a cheap //e
or GS. If you were in Winnipeg I could direct you to a company who has
more than a dozen //es and two dozen GSs sitting in a shipping container.
