Speaking strictly through my hat here:
1. Copy all files on the partition to be defragmented to a clean partition.
2. Format the original partition.
3. Copy all files back to the original partition.
Your files are now defragged (pretty much, it depends on how full the
partition is).
This works in a *nix environment quite well.
