Upon closer examination of the board, it appears that one chip
appears fried. It is a chip near the rear of the card. It is marked
M8428/LM/386N-3 and it is marked C3 on the board. What
is it and can it be fixed? There is one other defect that appears
on the board and its one of the gold contacts which appears
a bit damaged. There is still a connection but there is a chunk
that appears missing.  Is this thing safe to try or should it be
repaired first?
