Ther ZipGS came with wide SRAM sockets. But the ZipGS board was made to
take either wide or narrow sockets so many people just clipped out the middle and

installed another set of pins in the holes in center. I prefered putting in
narrow sockets
but in this case there was enough damage that I didn't want to do more than
neccessary

Sounds like you have a different problem, a bad motherboard socket. I'd suggest
replacing the motherboard socket with machined contact one. I found that
replacment fairly easy. I was able to pry the plastic socket off, leaving the
pins to
be individually desoldered.
