IIgs doesn't see the SCSI harddrive.........

Under 6.01, an external 2.15Gig Seagate Barracuda attached to an Apple
SCSI card is not detected. The card is in slot 7 and the ID is 7. The
drive is of unknown heritage but is running and whose former owner
represented to be functional.
The drive is externally terminated by an active terminator.
When I try to format it, the message is that there is no active SCSI HD.
This is an initial attempt at installing a HD on a IIgs, so guidance is
obviously needed.
I wish to use it as an HFS device as I read on the group that that will
permit the maximum partition size, but have no knowledge/experience with
what this functionality entails.
