I was thinking that since the ZipGS doesn't actually need to be in a
slot to
run, then everything is coming through that cable plugged into the CPU
socket. I was wondering if that crappy CPU socket Apple used on the IIgs
had much of an effect on performance. So I removed the socket and
replaced
it with a gold plated machined pin socket. Effect? Well, nothing
substantial but
16mhz used to crash within minutes, now it'll go for half an hour or so.
17mhz
crashed within seconds but now it makes it through a boot but not too
much
longer. Tried swapping my two ZipGSs and the other seems to run a teensy
bit
better in the IIgs with the new socket so now I guess have two more IIgs
to change
the sockets on.
Mayhaps I'll try ordering in some faster sram and seeing if I can
stabilize them
at 16mhz. I really liked that 17mhz for the few minutes it would run but
it's not
a realistic expectation, darn it.
