how much ram in an Apple2c

is there an easy way to tell how much ram is in an apple IIc?

in the past, I've used appleworks but I've already come across a couple of
IIcs that did not register any extra ram in AWorks yet had the memory
expansion board installed inside them...

on the same topic, how do you safely open a IIc? I've removed all of the
'apparent' screws from the bottom, but can't figure out how to open the
case - the drive bay seems to be in the way...
