I have to agree. SCSI is still superior and this isn't a Mac/PC thing. PC
users know that for very high end applications, it is worth shelling out
the money for SCSI. The SCSI standard ensures fast operation with low
CPU usage. Which was precisely why it was the ideal high speed
storage device connection for Apple IIs and Macs and high end PCs
of the past.
Today, IDE is catching up. With ATA100 drives at 7200RPM, they are
getting close. For the price difference, IDE is better in ultimate value.
But that dosn't change the fact that my CD-RW is flawless even though
it is an older model without "burn-proof" technology. I credit SCSI to
this. The newer drives with burn-proof wouldn't benefit as much though
and IDE would again be better value.
That's probably why Macs switched to IDE. Not because IDE is superior
but because it is more cost effective. My only problem with this is that
for the price Apple charges for Macs, you'd think they'd give users SCSI.
Premium price should command premium components yet they switched
to IDE without lowering the price.
