Tandy had licensed Microchannel because they thought that it
would sell but it didn't and the cost of the license was too
expensive so they discontinued the line. I used to work at
Tandy selling the machines and we *never* sold one of them
at our computer center in Worcester Mass. Most people
did not want the hassle of finding cards for microchannel
and chose to use machines with standard ISA slots. There
was more variety of cards available for ISA than microchannel.
The concept of bus mastering was cool but other than IBM
no one was pushing the machines. IBM pretty much stood
alone in supporting microchannel and they too eventually
caved in and changed to ISA in the PS/1 line sold through
most retail stores. (Sears, OfficeMax etc) The microchannel
was mostly only available to their business customers.
