Re: CMS SCSI Card and Zip drive ?
this is an interesting question... i just put my gs up for sale 2 days ago
with a zip hooked to a CMS SCSI card.... also has a twgs and 6megs of ram
and a ae hd floppy... (ok enough with the blantant disregard for
netiquiette and use of fs and non fs newsgroups ;')
i have used this combo for 2-3 years without a hitch, my gs came with a
seagate 30meg drive and my opion of seagate is only second to microsoft...
basically you just go into the setup for the CMS card
(command-control-shift... this is on a apple design extended keyboard...
also this should be in the SCSI section of the faq IMHO but it isnt for some
reason...) it will partition the drive into 32 meg sections which you can
access two at a time... (it makes three on a zip disk) then once GS/OS is
booted it tells you that the disk is unreadable and asks if you want it
formatted and you hit ok for each virtual drive and there you have it... i
never tried formatting it with HFS since i didnt need a partition larger
than 32megs and i have it atalked to a mac...
the one thing to remember is DONT EJECT THE DISK while booted go to shutdown
first and when it tells you to shut it off then change disks...
i have not had a problem with this setup and have been using it for about
2-3 years... also one nice thing is when the zip disk is put into a mac the
first partition will mount as a ProDOS partition and you can do file copying
to and from it... :')
i have read and been told not to use this SCSI card, and especially not with
a removable but i havnt had any problems... i never asked anyone for an
indepth reason but would be interested in knowing why if anyone would care
to elaborate...
if you have any other questions post here or email me...
sloopy.
