Apple crippled the memory on the early machines. The later
LC had 10 meg of RAM available although 6 meg was set
aside for ROM. The Mac Plus was even worse. It was limited
to 4 meg because Apple didn't let the Mac support larger than
1 meg simms. It only had 4 simm slots. To go larger it had to
support larger simms like a 4 meg simm. However, on the Mac
Plus/SE, Apple set aside 8 meg of address space for ROM. This
limit was not broached until Apple decided to make 68020 based
machines with larger address space. He is wanting 64 to 256 meg
of static RAM.
