Sad but true. One of the great strengths of X is that it does one job
- providing the ability to network graphical applications - and does
it well. Its great weakness is that it does nothing more than that
one job, and hence the proliferation of widget sets, window managers
and desktop environments leading to infinite variety and infinite
confusion.

Me personally? No. I am insufficiently tolerant of idiots to do
luser-support, and there is nothing to motivate me to create such a
distribution right now. But if someone wanted to make a go at it, I
could be persuaded to work on creating and maintaining the product.
Provided he had a good business plan which would keep me in
pay-cheques for a few years.

Which is why I talked about an entire distribution, not just a kernel.
An appliance distribution is not going to look anything like a
traditional Linux distro. Sure, the end result may be a nice Gnome
desktop just like you can have with other distros, but the underlying
system will be very different.
