You are confusing color with graphics. :) The Hercules monochrome
graphics card was a decent graphics card for its time.

EGA was available in 1984. 16 colors, 640x350. By 1987 VGA was
around.

That would be the late '80s when Sierra Online started pushing the
Adlib and Roland MT-32.
