I had a similar problem with a DuoDisk that I purchased for $5.00 at a
used computer store in the as is area. The heads were so out of
alignment that it wouldn't read or write, so I replaced the drive
mechanism with one from an Apple 5.25 Drive that I had lying around...
Now works great. No longer looks completely normal, since part of the
drive door is platinum now, but that's ok. Oh, btw, it also came with
the "rare" cable.
