I do not wish to put a damper on Stephanes work on the IDE controller. Heck
I would build one myself when it's further developed and proven.
However at the present moment I believe the cheapest option is the Focus IDE
all in one hard card. Unless of course you can get a second hand SCSI
controller for under $69US, which is kinda doubtfull, you'll need a lot of
luck there. Also unless you already have an external power supply and case
for your old SCSI drives, you'll have to cough up for that too, which will
almost certainly make the Focus card the cheaper solution.
The other card options for IDE is to buy one of ///SHH Systeme's IDE
controller from Germany, and I think there are three options, all costing
from $79US to $139US + postage.
Reading the FAQ on ///SHH Systeme site seems to indicate there is a limit of
256MB per drive, whereas the Focus can go to 1.2G or more. Not that you'd
actually need that much. 256MB would be plenty for most.
