Apples utilities are designed ONLY for Apple HD's. You
need a third party software that will partition any HD and
format it. I used to use a CMS hard drive and I had to buy
a third party formatter. It has been so long that I don't
recall the name of the program. You will also need to make
your own enclosure since the Mac Plus power supply is
not strong enough to provide power for an HD.

Use a non-Apple SCSI HD do a MacPlus will recognize it?
I have a Seagate ST31231N I want to put in the computer.
HD SC does not see it.
It is already formatted as a Mac volume with MacDisk32 on my PC.
I am guessing it needs to be initialized somehow.
What software will do it?
