The easiest way to decompress .gz files is on a PC using WinZIP.
Once you have the decompressed file, you can Shift-click on its name and
select "Properties" to obtain an exact length (in bytes). If a file has a
length of 143,360 bytes, it is likely to be a disk image of one side of an
Apple II 5.25" diskette.
Applewin depends upon the filetype suffix to decide how to deal with a
standard (e.g. .dsk, .po, .do) disk image. If, somehow, you get a disk image
without a suffix, try renaming it to have a name ending with ".dsk". For more

Not sure. Sounds like an image which may be in CP/M format intended for
use with an Apple II equipped with a Z80 card.
