I picked up one of these a few weeks ago. about 60% of the keys didn't work.
If this is your problem, try this it worked for me, and now I only have a
couple of keys which need a bit more work:
1. Write down the keyboard matrix first, you can't copy the layout off an
assembled Apple, due to major differences. Write down which keys don't work.
2. Remove the back.
3. Remove all the screws holding the printed circuit board to the case.
4. remove the conductive rubberised keyboard sheet. wash in mild detergent,
a soft brush and water, rince & dry. use Iso-propyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol
?) on a tissue and wipe the small round black rubber conductor on each key
that needs cleaning.
5. clean the key-contact side of the keyboard with Iso-propyl alcohol and a
tissue, especially the keys that were dodgy.
6. wash the keyboard key matrix using mild detergent and water and a soft
bristle brush. dry thoroughly, or assist with compressed air to speed things
up. be carefull not to dislodge the keys. if any of the keys were sticking
mechanically, spray those thoroughly with silicon spray. or just spray the
lot for good measure anyway. depress all the keys to work in the silicon.
dry off excess with tissues.
6. reassemble in reverse order and re-test keyboard. repeat procedure again
if required, but just concentrate on the dodgy keys using Iso-propyl
alcohol.
this fixed 95% of the keys for me after a couple of goes.
