Apple Disk Drive - Hardware Mod Question

Has anyone modified an internal or external Apple II drive so that it can
write to write-protected disks?  If anyone has done this or knows how to do
it, I'd appreciate your help before taking a crack at it myself.

"Why the hell would you want to do that?  Just use a hole-puncher on the

I've been collecting old software and have a couple of titles that have
somehow become corrupt.  I'm interested in reformatting and copying a disk
image over the corrupt data.  I realize the problem may be a serious media
failure, but I'm willing to give it a shot.  Also, I've been "restoring" old
game disks that have heavily worn labels by scanning the labels, touching
them up in a paint program, and then printing them to sticker stock for
application on a fresh floppy.  The results have been great so far, but I'd
love to get my hands on some disks without write-enable notches in them, so
the final product looks more like the original.  This is all purely for my
personal amusement.  (weird, huh?)
