Re: Uncooperative RamFast

Thanks to all who responded.

After an evening of banging my head against the wall, I finally found the
problem: I use a Belkin Mac keyboard adapter to run a PC keyboard with
the IIgs. It works under _almost_ all circumstances, but apparently it
is just enough different that the computer fails to detect keys held down
at startup. In over five years, I had never hit that particular problem!

Once I got a glimmer of what might be happening, I dragged out the original
keyboard, and was able to use '0' to get the utility at startup. After it scanned the bus and discovered ID2 was missing, I saved the configuration and everything was fine afterwards.

I had the manual and knew what was SUPPOSED to happen, but it simply didn't
with the Belkin adapter :-)

FYI: Running the utility from GS/OS worked fine (I had the original support
diskette), but all it did was show me the (unwanted) SCSI ID2 CF card. No
amount of incantation will let you _delete_ a physical drive from within the
program. The only way to get going is to force the firmware at startup, let
it figure out on its own that the device is gone, then save that.

Anyway, all's well now.
