I loaded up AppleWorks and it said I had 55K free memory. Does AppleWorks use
the auxiliary memory?

You must have either version 1x or 2x of AppleWorks. Starting with version 3
AppleWorks will use the extra memory without patching. The RamWorks card came
with software to patch earlier versions to used the additional memory
