The easiest way to get a hard drive is the Focus Drive from Alltech. It 
just drops into a slot, has an onboard interface and notebook drive.

The next most popular way, is a SCSI card. These are not currently 
available new, so you have to go to the second hand market. They tend to 
be expensive. The advantage of SCSI is that you can hook up other 
devices, like CDRoms as well. It is also possible to get an IDE 
interface as well, but unless you're building a Tower GS or something 
this probably isn't what you want.

If you want to get you GS up to spec, you may also need to add a ram 
card. Alltech also sell

The GS has two built in serial ports, similar to those on a Macintosh. 
There is an Ethernet card, only recently developed. It doesn't support 
Appletalk networking, but is useful for TCPIP networking.

If you're going to get into the GS, I'd highly recommend checking out 
the A2 Community on Syndicomm (http://www.syndicomm.com/). It costs $10 
a month or $25 a quarter, but is the hub of Apple II activity on the 
internet. You can readily access it via a GS, and it features and 
extensive file library, organised bulletin board system, and daily chats 
with other users and programmers.
