Ninjaforce has done it again!!

  I downloaded Samurai and had it up and running in short order.  
IRC is not for everyone.  Some call it the dark back-alley of the internet
in that literally everything is discussed there (somewhat like Newsgroups?
;).   But for those interested in exploring the wild make sure you pack
plenty of supplies, always hire native bearers and for the GS, check out
this product.
  IRC is composed of various "Nets".  these are collections of servers
loosely joined by mutual  IRCOPS as they are called:  people who are sysops
of those servers.  Common nets are DALNET, NEWNET, GalaxyNET, and, the
grandfather of them all:  Eris Free Net or EFNET.  I use EFNET.  
I fired up Samurai after the download and unpacking.  It is a NDA and is
accessed in the usual way.  Samurai looks like any of a number of standard
IRC clients:  there is a place to plug in server name, port number,  Nick,
and Real name.  
As my Marinetti set-up runs across a LANceGS and out to my proxy server I
was curious to see how Samurai would deal with DNS, jumping my proxy (I have
an IDENT port open, for those interested in the nitty gritty), and general
interface with the various IRC servers.
 I plug in a server name (point your Web search engine at the terms "IRC" or
"Efnet" and there are pages of updated lists of servers).
Then I specified a port number.  Usually this is set to 6667 which is
Samurai's default and normally will work fine. 6668 or 6669 will work if
6667 won't. Then state a nick (if you are around efnet, I am "pilgrim").
This can be anything up to 11 characters (shades of ProDOS?) then specify
your name ( I used Alias Q. Undercover)
  Once you issue the open apple enter to connect, it  logs into the server
and you can now  "join" a channel.  Careful.  Some of these are quite wild.
(If you want to try a relativly safe one may I suggest #appleIIGS?)    I
would describe IRC command syntax but that is a lot of typing.  Look back at
that IRC websearch you did for servers.  There you should also find a primer
on commands.
  I pointed Samurai at a channel that is usually quite busy, chatted a while
then had to go out and do some shopping.  I left it up and running.  Came
back hours later and, It was chuggging right along.  I now have a new way to
play with my GS.
