Please note: regardless of whether you are going to upgrade to MAIL 3.2
please make sure you have MAIL 3.1 installed. If you have MAIL 3.0.5 or
earlier installed, please upgrade as you're missing out on some critical
bug fixes. (MAIL 3.1 requires ProLine v3.0.1 or later)
RANDOM SIGNATURES (via script)
==============================
This works with MAIL 2.0 and later.
If you want your random signature to work in CS you must you this method.
(This method works for mail too). However for your entire session you will be
limited to ONE signature. You will not have true random signatures.
Just add these lines BEFORE the line that says "PLUSH" in your login file.
echo
echo Rotating Sigfiles
mv signature sig/temp
mv sig/s1 signature
mv sig/s2 sig/s1
mv sig/s3 sig/s2
mv sig/temp sig/s3
echo Done rotating sigfile
This assumes a total of FOUR signatures. You will have your first signature
named "signature" in your home directory. You will also need a directory
called "sig" in which you have files named s1, s2, s3. They will be rotated
in order. You can vary this number and make the corresponding lines to
compensate. I've been using this succesfully for several years.
RANDOM SIGNATURES (via MAIL 3.2 and later)
==========================================
I really did want TRUE random signatures. This new version of mail allows
them. You will need, of course, one signatures called "signature' in your
root directory. Proline gets upset if it's not there. However MAIL 3.2 does
NOT use this (CS, CSX, and other programs do continue to use this).
To use MAIL 3.2 you must do the following things:
1. Make a directory called "SIGNATURES"
2. Make s1, s2, etc in the SIGNATURES directory. These are your
signature files. You must have two or more. There is a actual
limit of 9999. However the practical limit is 254.
3. In your MAILRC file, you must change the addsig=x line. This
attribute now behaves as follows:
A. If 0 then no signatures are used (same as mail 3.1 and older)
B. If 1 then the default signature is used from your home
directory (same as mail 3.1 and older)
C. If 2 or greater, then the new signatures in your SIGNATURES
directory are used. (MAIL 3.2 picks a number between 1 and X
and then picks the appropriately named sigfile Sx to use
as your signature for that single piece of mail)
MAIL 3.2 does tend to crash with ERROR 12 (no buffers available) error a bit
more since it added two new variables to the variable table and made the
program use additional memory. I may address this in MAIL 3.2.x down the
road. However I'm trying to fix CS/CSX to use the new random signature
feature which has turned out to be far more difficult than I had anticipated.
