Re: OMG!
I think someone summarized it properly when they said you are trying to talk
down the market. But I think it is clear that the market for original software
is going up not down. It would go up even more if the option to download it
didn't exist.
Your point is to legitimize getting it free or cheap. Knock offs yes. But w/o
docs they are not so useful. With downloaded doc, after your effort to print
them out, wouldn't it have been just cheap and certianly nicer looking to have
just bought them? Sure it would. Do it once or twice and you pat yourself on
the back for getting something for nothing. But after a while this gets
tiresome and maybe you may break down and buy the original. Or if you really
use the program a lot, you may buy the original just to have the real thing.
The is a great and noble role for resellers, Joe Kohn is not exactly a reseller
but he is keeping otherwise old software new. For those who want the real
thing, not a knock off. If you use it enough, you should buy a real copy.
People on here seem to try to denigrate that role. But I think it is a noble
one and should be loudly applauded.
There is a subset of this group that wants to glorify scrounging. There are
good kinds of scrounging and then there are kinds that are not so good.
You might be one who wants to take the plunge and buy some original software
for you cheap hobbyist computer, just for fun.
