It is the power supply. The brick just supplies 12V DC (unregulated) while
the metal box converts this to +5V, +12V and -12V regulated (the motherboard
provides the tiny amount of -5V it needs from the -12V line).

I cannot remember this one. Which model //c do you have? ROM versions 255 and
0 have 16 RAM chips while versions 3 & 4 have only 4 RAM chips and a socket
for a RAM expansion card.
