It is possible that they put support into the MS-DOS FST to handle
2880 KB disks as that is a standard MS-DOS format. I would imagine
that the FST is limited to handling 720 KB, 1440 KB and 2880 KB
volumes.
And just to get in a "back at ya", you can use 2880 KB drives on an
Apple II if you use ///SHH Systeme's BlueDisk controller card so it
isn't really a hardware constraint either. :-) At least, the
documentation for the cards says that it handles them. I don't own
either the card or a 2880 KB drive so I have no first hand experience.
