Though I have not personally done this, there have been recent posts here
from people who have done it successfully, usually in the context of
connecting to a Linux machine to do file sharing via the netatalk
package.

I am under the impression that a IIGS will not correctly share files
on a "modern" AppleTalk network, as the more recent versions (4.0 and
above of AppleShare?) of the Mac-based server software no longer
include the code that supports the IIGS.  

Others can probably give you more details, depending on what you
want your setup to look like.
