It would help if you could tell us which "old apple dot matrix printer" you
are talking about.
Apple's first was called Apple Dot Matrix Printer, and it used a parallel
interface. The next three were the Imagewriter, ImageWriter II, and
ImageWriter LQ, and they all used a serial interface. For those you will need
a super serial card or clone thereof. There were also two thermal transfer
printers that Apple made, and one was the same color as the //c and also used
a serial interface.
