It applies to all DeskJets (except the 700-types and newer), and all versions
of AppleWorks (3.0 and up).
The older 500 and 550's (but not 520 and 540, I believe) also have a serial
connection in addition to the parallel. With those, you do not have to buy a
parallel card such as the Grapppler+. All you need is a regular Apple to
Imagewriter I (one) cable to connect the machines. This way, you can use a
DeskJet with a //c.
