You need a language card (either a genuine Apple one or a third party
clone) in slot 0 if you want the machine to behave like it has 64K.

You won't be able to use a card like the Apple II Memory Expansion card,
or an equivalent like the RamFactor, because they don't work in slot 0,
and they don't emulate a language card.  You could put one of these
cards in another slot, and it would work as a Ram disk under ProDOS or
DOS 3.3, but applications would still think the machine was 48K.

There are probably some other types of memory expansion card from the
][/][+ era, but I never used anything other than a ROM card or a
standard language card.

If you do come across some other type of memory card, it must emulate a
language card to be useful, and any extra memory provided by the card is
unlikely to be supported by most applications.
